Welcome to the Fashion Business Blueprint!

Week 1:

In Week 1, you'll begin your journey with a live orientation led by your mentor, Lauren Lee. During this session, she'll walk you through how the course is structured and what you can expect to gain from it.

Week 2:

Sketching

In Week 2, Lauren will guide you through the fundamentals of fashion sketching. She’ll break down her trademarked sketching method designed to be approachable and effective for all skill levels, even if you’ve never drawn before. You’ll also learn Lauren’s unique “sketch without sketching” technique, a simple yet powerful strategy that requires no traditional hand drawing. It’s an essential tool for visualizing your designs and communicating your ideas with clarity and confidence to clients  throughout your fashion design journey.

Week 3:

Pattern Knowledge, Broken Down

In Week 3, Lauren will guide you through the fundamentals of understanding, reading, and using patterns. Mastering pattern knowledge is a critical step in constructing well-made garments. You’ll learn how to interpret commercial and custom patterns, and gain the skills needed to begin bringing your designs to life with precision and confidence.

By the end of the week, you’ll have a strong foundation in pattern reading and application an essential tool in your fashion design journey.

Week 4:

Foundations of the Custom Design Process

In week 4, Lauren will guide you through the essential hands-on steps that form the foundation of launching your design process as a custom fashion designer. You'll gain a clear understanding of what “pre-production” entails from managing client intake forms, organizing your project calendar, and preparing for new clients , to fabric and notion sourcing, muslin and starting to sewing. This week also covers the importance of first and second fittings and learning and using your sewing machine. To learning how to build your ideal designer’s kit to stay prepared and professional throughout every project.

Week 5:

Mastering the Fitting Process

In Week 5, you'll dive into the structure of LaurenLee’s signature fitting process from building strong client relationships to executing precision fittings with both in-person and remote clients. You’ll learn how to take accurate measurements using live models, understand the flow of fittings from start to finish, and apply the “Measure Twice, Cut Once” method to avoid costly errors. We’ll also cover the necessary alterations that should be addressed during each fitting stage. By Fitting 3 the final session your client should be ready to take their design home. Before that, garments must be checked for imperfections, professionally cleaned, and properly pressed.

Week 6:

Photoshoot & Visual Presentation

In Week 6, it’s time to bring your designs to life on camera. Whether you’re ready to publish your work now or save it for a later date, capturing your garment professionally is an essential part of branding and marketing your fashion business. You’ll also learn the importance of securing media rights through contracts ensuring you and your client agree on when and how content is shared. If a client requests that images be posted after their prom or special event, honoring that agreement is key to maintaining professionalism and trust. This week features a live demonstration from a professional fashion photographer, who will guide you through effective techniques for styling, posing, and capturing content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and your website.

Week 7

The Business of Custom Design

In Week 7, you'll begin building the professional foundation behind your work as a custom fashion designer. This includes understanding how to create and manage contracts, develop client forms, and set up your client process using scheduling platforms and workflow tools.

Week 8:

Branding, Packaging & Visual Identity

In Week 8, you'll explore the power of branding and how to build a cohesive visual identity that aligns with your brands aesthetic and brand values. This week is all about presenting your work in a way that not only reflects your creativity but also builds trust and recognition with your audience. You’ll learn how to define your brand’s voice, choose signature colors and fonts, and design branding elements such as logos, labels, and tags. We'll also cover packaging essentials from poly mailers to shopping bags and how thoughtful presentation enhances the client experience and sets your brand apart in a competitive market. By the end of the week, you'll have a clear understanding of how to translate your brand’s personality into a visual language that’s both memorable and market-ready.

Week 9:

Business Setup & Financial Literacy for Designers

In Week 9, you’ll gain essential knowledge on establishing and managing your fashion business for long-term success. This week covers the fundamentals of legally setting up your business, understanding your financial responsibilities, and mastering key financial literacy skills. Topics include registering your business, managing taxes, budgeting, bookkeeping basics, and strategies to maintain healthy cash flow. By the end of the week, you’ll be equipped with the tools and confidence to run your design business efficiently and profitably.

Week 10:

Final Projects, Certification & Course Closing

In Week 10, you will dedicate focused time to complete your final project, showcasing the skills and knowledge you’ve gained throughout the Fashion Business Blueprint. Completing this project is required to receive your certification, marking a significant milestone in your journey as a custom fashion designer. Lauren Lee will also share valuable insights on how to secure your first clients and what qualities she looks for in potential interns, providing guidance for your next steps in the industry. While all students must complete the final project to earn certification, only those who choose to participate will have the opportunity to present their work to the group for feedback and celebration.

This week serves as both a culmination and a launchpad as you prepare to take your design career to the next level.
